08/05/2007 - Charlotte, NC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Carolina Panthers reportedly signed their first-round draft choice, linebacker Jon Beason, on Sunday.

According to the Charlotte Observer, Beason, the 25th overall pick, ended an eight-day holdout by inking a five-year deal that includes more than $6 million in guaranteed money.

In 38 career games at Miami-Florida, Beason started 22 times. He tallied 171 tackles, 2 1/2 sacks, 18 tackles for loss and one interception with the Hurricanes.

Beason is expected to practice for the first time with the Panthers on Monday. He is projected to unseat veteran Na'il Diggs at outside linebacker or move inside if star middle linebacker Dan Morgan has trouble returning from a series of concussions.
